What is the 4-H Veterinary Science Career Exploration Program?

The 4-H Veterinary Science Career Exploration Program gives high school students (grades 9-12) an opportunity to explore veterinary careers and develop skills with experienced animal professionals.

In this series, participants will:

  • Gain Insight into Veterinary Science Careers
  • Explore Animal Health and Behavior
  • Develop Skills with Experienced Professionals

When/Where does the program meet?

Most sessions are held on Mondays from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rockland County (10 Patriot Hills Drive Stony Point, N.Y. 10980) from October to December.

2022 Tentative Schedule:

  • October 3: Introduction to Veterinary Medicine
  • October 17: Oradell Animal Hospital Tour (580 Winters Ave, Paramus, NJ 07652)
  • October 24: Veterinary Technology, Mercy College (555 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522)
  • Saturday, November 5: Horse Care and Rehabilitation
  • November 7: Exotic Animal Care & Handling, Rockland BOCES (65 Parrott Rd, West Nyack, NY 10994)
  • November 14: Anatomy & Physiology / Sheep Heart Dissection
  • November 21: Case Studies in Veterinary Medicine / Frog Dissection
  • November 28: A "Day in the Life" of a Veterinarian / Education Considerations and Critical Thinking
  • December 5: Cat Care & Handling

Registration is due October 2 or until full!

Fee

$150. Financial assistance is available.
