4-H Dog Handling and Showmanship [Registration Deadline]

About the Program:

During this 5-session series, youth will:

Enhance their knowledge of dog behavior and training
Learn show procedures, rules, and etiquette as a dog handler
Learn how to gait their dog in the show ring
Learn how to hand stack, free stack, and show their dog’s teeth

Who:

Youth ages 8-18. For youth safety, parents/guardians must be present. Please, no dogs for the introductory session on October 3rd.

Where:

On the grounds of our office and education center located at 10 Patriot Hills Drive, Stony Point, NY.

When:

Saturdays, October 3rd to 31st, 3 to 4 PM.

Make sure to join us in costume on October 31st!

October 2nd or until full. Space is limited to 10 individuals, so register early!

Registration Fee:

$75. Financial assistance is available for those with demonstrated need.

About the Presenter:

Fran Hellman is a certified professional dog trainer and the owner of Four Paws Guidance Dog Training. Fran teaches breed handling group training classes, as well as private lessons. About Dog Showmanship:

New York State 4-H and the American Kennel Club (AKC) offer opportunities for youth to show their dog handling skills, which can help youth develop life-long skills including responsibility, patience, sportsmanship, and self-confidence. The 4-H showmanship competitions focus on the handler, not on the dog’s conformation or purebred status, so rescued dogs and mixed breeds are welcome ( with restrictions). COVID-19 Guidelines:

COVID-19 Symptoms

People with COVID-19 have reported a wide range of symptoms. Symptoms may appear two to 14 days after exposure to the virus and commonly include:

Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fever
Chills
Muscle pain
Sore throat
New loss of taste or smell

This list is not all inclusive. Other less common symptoms have been reported, including gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Older adults may show confusion or disorientation and experience falls.

General Guidelines

Stay home when you are sick with any of the above symptoms
Stay home if you have come into contact with anyone suspected to have COVID-19 or who has tested positive for COVID-19
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

For the Program:

Individual adults and a parent or guardian of each child must answer health screening questions upon arrival for each session
A parent or guardian must sign the “ Acknowledgment of Risk Form” for each child, along with other 4-H Enrollment Forms
Masks, made and fitted in accordance with NYS regulations, must be worn by every person present at all times
A minimum distance of 6 feet must always be maintained
Hand sanitizer with a minimum of 60% alcohol by volume will be readily available, but participants may want to bring their own
