DESCRIPTION: On May 6 at 6:30 pm, plan to join us for the screening of the amazing documentary, The Story of Plastic . This film was created by the same group that brought us the highly informative and popular The Story of Stuff, some 13 years ago. The Story of Plastic shows how in just 40 years plastics have evolved from a miracle material into what feels like an overwhelming environmental nightmare.About the event The purpose of this screening is not to distress or depress people but to inform and help us figure out how to take action. Following the screening of The Story of Plastic, we’ll have a panel discussion on the film and next steps, led by Judith Enck. Ms. Enck was our own EPA Regional Administrator under President Obama. She now heads the Beyond Plastic project and is a visiting professor at Bennington College. Register for the event Please register for the screening and panel via Eventbrite to get the access information for the Zoom Webinar. About the film The Story of Plastic takes a sweeping look at the man-made crisis of plastic pollution and the worldwide effect it has on the health of our planet and the people who inhabit it. Spanning three continents, the film illustrates the ongoing catastrophe: fields full of garbage, veritable mountains of trash, rivers and seas clogged with waste, and skies choked with the poisonous emissions from plastic production and processing. The Story of Plastic features interviews with experts and activists on the front lines of the fight, revealing the disastrous consequences of the flood of plastic smothering ecosystems and poisoning communities around the world, and the global movement that is rising up in response. With engaging original animation, archival industry footage beginning in the 1930's, and first-person accounts of the unfolding emergency, the film distills a complex problem that is increasingly affecting the planet’s and its residents’ well-being. Learn more about the film on their website.
